Maybe I'm getting old and ornery, but I have had it up to my adenoids with the dumbass stories getting attention these days.
Do we really need another example of an idiotic statement by a brain dead politician nobody ever really heard of before? What is the relevance of a celebrity Tweet or Facebook post? And, seriously, does anybody really give a flying @!$%# about what The Donald thinks?
Where are the stories and debates on the really big deal problems we're confronting?...The economy, energy, the environment, education, jobs, war/peace and foreign policy, civil and human rights, poverty?
Where are the really big ideas to solve them?
Where is the soul searching, the retrospection, the deep digging and sometimes painful work of getting to the root of what ails us?
Are we afraid of what we'll find if we dare to so much as scratch the surface? Or are we tired and just want to be entertained?
To be fair, the stories are out there, and some get posted here, but it seems to me that they get short shrift and are few and far between, shoved out of the spotlight--and the attention and discourse they deserve--by the silly, the meaningless, and the irrelevant.
It's like Honey-Boo-Boo-ization of the news.
Is it me? What do YOU think?
