GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Voters have spoken out against recall efforts of Green Bay Democratic Senator Dave Hansen.

With 65% of the preliminary voting results in, Hansen is expected to win the recall election with more than two-thirds of the vote against Republican David VanderLeest.

Hansen’s win is expected to set the tone for upcoming recall elections of six Republican set for August 9th, and for two other Democrats facing recall elections on August 16th.

In related news...

Wisconsin: Walker Vulnerable to Recall, with 59% Disapproval Rating‎

Walker dismissed the numbers by saying that the state was unhappy over the recalls! Nice inversion, but the fact that Walker couldn’t even make remarks at a college without getting shouted down leads in the other direction.

July 19 recall, special election results

Hansen is the projected winner. The above link is still taking in numbers as this is posted. Hansen moved out early and stayed there. At one point he was ahead by more 40 points.

This is the second recall victory for the Dems. The first being the primaries when Dems easily defeated Republican "fake Dems" running only to slow down the recall process.

Inside info from Dem party pollsters here indicate the Dems are running ahead in at least 4 of the 6 Republican recalls.

Good to be back. Yes, he was, but the repubs screwed up. They guy they REALLY wanted didn't get enough valid signatures on his filing papers..some snafu. So the repubs were left with a real loser even many of them didn't want. He had some "baggage"...

This is SOOO great! One down, 2 to go and they get the majority back. Then, it's time to toss that douchebag Walker out in the street. America is awake, and they see what a bunch of lying corporate whores the current crop of rightists are.

Now, if we could just get Obama to show some backbone and get him to fight. Like he promised he'd do.

Thanks, idle, for the great news!!!

Boil that down for a few minutes and you've got yourself a thinkprogress designed "Beliver".....

Republicans are always "evil" and Democrats always seem to be lacking just enough courage to "fight"?

Sure, maybe in Oz.....

Scooter, my guess is I'm one Hell of a lot older than you. I remember a time when Republicans actually MEANT something and stood for something. I voted for some of them back then. That was a LOONG time ago. Today's typical NeoCon legislator is a borderline psychopath (Bachmann) or a religious lunatic. You've got Cantor, Boehner and McConnell as your "leaders" now. And McConnell, as rotten as he is, is among the BEST out of the rest of them.

If that doesn't scare the @!$%# outta you, you simply ain't payin' attention.

Got to love it, the GOOPers chances to keep the Senate just declined by 33% , All we need is 3 of the 6 in we are in like flynn to stop Koch's hand puppet Walkers feudal agenda, He'll be recalled in Nov 2012 timed perfectly to maximize voter turnout in the General,, and most likely lose the state house then...then...Gov Feingold? :-)

Randy, just to clarify, Hansen, who won, is a Democratic state senator. Republicans were trying to recall him, and they failed. So it's status quo as far as the numbers are concerned. The big test will be when six incumbent Republican state senators face Democratic challengers in the August 9 recall elections. All Dems need is to win three of those races, and the balance of power changes in the state senate to Democratic.

What's important about the Hansen re-election is that it shows momentum. So did the primaries that happened recently where the Dems overwhelming defeated "fake Dems" put up by the GOP. People really got what was going on, and didn't buy it.

Stay tuned...

Finally,Americans are recognizing Democracy is not a spectator sport. The irony is, it took the Regressive Reich Wing to get them active again. Along with Neocons/Republicans/Teabaggers, APATHY is on the run...long live DEMOCRACY!

Thanks Badgers, what a tenacious name for you guys, for leading the way back to GOVERMENT;OF,BY, AND FOR the... 'PEOPLE'! The Republicans,by branding middle class/working people as the enemy, are reaping what they sowed. This 'ENEMY', the American People, is a group you will surely regret picking a fight with;'STILL WATERS RUN DEEP'...

Come on working people, protect yourselves. Wisconsin has drawn up the 'bluprint', all the rest of the country has to do is follow it; ie... STAND UP-SPEAK OUT-ORGANIZE- STAY FOCUSED- and VOTE....

Absolutely. John Nygren would have been better than either one of the "Daves." Unfortunately, Nygren's commitee was incompetent. Who takes a chance on stopping after obtaining only 22 signatures over what is required? My favorite quote from this article:

"What the Republicans say is not important to me. The Republican Party showed up to a football game wearing a ballerina skirt," VanderLeest said Monday.

Homer Simpson had a quote for that - "It's funny 'cause it's true!"

This is good news. My concern is that the celebrating is premature. From playing sports in college, I learned never to celebrate until the goal is accomplished, lest you let up... as the American women did in the World Cup. John Wooden once said that when you're not practicing to get better, there is another player that is practicing, and one day the two of you will meet on the court.

Keep pressing until Dems recover the state senate, and Wanker is vanquished. You can bet the opposition will relentlessly press their regressive agenda.

Go WI! Has walker refused to listen to any more judges lately or take votes without an entire party present in congress? Concluding from the statement makes walker an above the law douchebag!

Why is wanting to do something good for the country and it's people only a liberal or moderate point of view? Filibustering, hypocritical actions and propaganda etc etc is a GOP point of view. Do something for the people instead of fighting for corporations then we independents might think better of you GOP'ers.

Might I suggest one of the New Glarus Brewing Co. brews. Support the local microbrewers.

I strongly suspect that this is not just a Democrat vs Republican thing but more a working class vs the plutocrats or honest/open government vs fascism. Fire fighters and police officers who were exempt from Walker's union busting have been supporters of the movement since early on, and they're usually considered to be conservative leaning. The recall campaign for Sen Kapanke (R) was coordinated by a Republican banker because he didn't like the way the Repubs were operating in pushing their agenda.

We can thank the 14 Democrats for giving the people time to see what was in the Walker agenda, his relationship to the Koch brothers, and the extent the Repubs were willing to go to to push their agenda. They may well be responsible for a national movement that will see the 2012 defeat of the Republicans/Tea Baggers. After the Hansen results I have a good feeling about the Dems taking the Senate back.

          Great analysis as always, PaPa.

I wish I could convey the deep moral outrage people have by what Walker & Co. have done since they took office. It's so completely at odds with what a lot of people have known as "the Wisconsin Way."

Interesting side story...the repubs tried to strip UW/Madison out of the University of Wisconsin system to privatize it. UW chancellor Biddy Martin ended up resigning because she supported this crap sandwich and got a bleepload of blowback from UW regents, faculty, and students. That was a HUGE victory.

I have told people that Reps/Teas Party have won one race and that was the judge in WI when those 10,000 votes were found on the Reps voter worker computer. The Reps/Tea Party are toasted. They have lost the last 3 elections. One in Upstate NY, one in Ca, and this one WI. You also can add that Dem mayor in Florida. A black mayor too in a place that didn't vote for a Dem mayor to often.

Give the whole story? You think you got the whole story? The story begins with a lie... Republicans lying to voters about what their true agenda was. Start with that, and then come back and tell us about the whole story.

If others can carry concealed, or open carry, we can, too. Save your extra pennies, ladies and gentlemen and obey the Second yourself. Whenever one of these teabagging hacks drones on and on about reloading, etc., I remark that I, too, liberal as I am, own and will carry as necessary - all within the local laws. They usually back down. If they don't, well, I've considered carrying a copy of one of my favorite target practices reduced in size photocopy) wherein I nailed a certain area of the anatomy 15 out of 15 w/my Browning. I think I'd trade Arizona's summers for Wisconsin's winters. Yeah, the weather's nice here from Late Oct. thru mid April, but the other 6 months suck with triple digit temperatures and high A.C. bills, and to add insult to injury, we have a conservative nutjob state legislature that just passed 367 rightwingnut new laws. Most are regressive idiotic ideas that are near and dear to conservative xenophobic hearts, and gun toting Wyatt Earp pretenders.

Madison, WI. sounds better everytime a Republican loses a race.

Madison rocks. The Wisconsin winters aren't nearly so bad if you get out into the weather a bit and find out how refreshing they can be. Of course, February/March are a great time to get the hell out of here for a while if one needs to.

I live on the 'west coast' of Wisconsin (La Crosse) and while it's not as free and easy going as Madison is, it's a town with three colleges, the Mighty Mississippi, and a well-earned reputation for applying copious amounts of beer to solve life's most challenging situations. You're welcome here anytime!

Hey AI - We have enough alligators here in Florida - unfortunately they all got voted in during the mid-terms - We're going through pretty much what all the other states with Teapublican Governors are going through - We can't recall, but Rick Scott has quite a few lawsuits pending against him and hopefully we can put him in jail.

AND Unfortunately, the majority here are geriatrics and have a hard time protesting - the "walkers" and wheel-chairs hinders long marches. At least they now know Rick really "ISN'T A GOOD BOY".

Any way - YAY FOR WISCONSIN - 2012 is going to be a brighter year.

I look forward to more updates - I really missed reading about the enormous progress all of you have been achieving. It is inspiring and it sure makes it worthwhile to continue the fight. I can't say enough good things about those courageous 14 Senators and all the support they got and are getting from the people of Wisconsin who refuse to get steamed-rolled over.

Thank you again and I can't wait for the next recall election and the next and the next, ect...until all those who thought they could screw we, the people are gone from our government - Watching the Teapublicans in Congress and watching all the polls across this nation - it sure looks like we will be back on high ground before too long - at least by the time we elect our President again and get rid of these ass wipes at the same time.

We must never forget and we must never, ever vote a Republican or Teapublican to any position higher than a "junk yard dog". They can yap at each other while we get on with re-building this nation and maintaining our civic duties to our country and to we, the people.

Keep up the fight - WE ALL ARE WORTH IT. :o)

Well Hoopity - Doo! A Liberal in Wisconsin has a good day! How much did that cost the tax payers and employers of Wisconsin? RECALL on SANITY!

Scott Walker did that State a favor and he deserves credit for trying to bring sanity into the budgets talks! Politics aside, It seems to be hard to find a Liberal who will agree that excessive spending, by that I mean, deficit spending, is even a bad thing! The 2011 American Liberal just wants to spend your childrens' money! Aren't they cute?

I agree that deficit spending is a bad idea.

So is creating a deficit. In case you missed the order of events, there was no budget hole before Walker gave a ton of tax breaks to his corporate sponsors, with the blessing of the state legislature's Repubs. Then he decided that the state employees had to take a hit, claiming it was needed to balance the budget. After some fuss, the employees offered a compromise that addressed the supposedly all-important budget issues with them taking the hit to pay and benefits and Walker showed what his real goal was ( busting the unions ) by refusing to accept that offer.

So don't expect me to take your attempt at a guilt trip about "your childrens' money" seriously when Walker was all for screwing over the teachers of Wisconsin, and therefore the children they teach, for the sake of his sponsors.

Tommy Thompson gave about a billion bucks away when the state had a surplus just before he left office and another repub took over. that started the deficit ball rolling.

now the repubs are cutting a billion from education.

Not only did the Repub in Wisconsingive money to fat cats and then try to suck it back out of the working citizens of its state, but when the Repub Pres. Bush took office there was also a surplus of money and again the Repubs weren't happy so they let money fall and didn't pick any up from the top rich 1 percent and now they once again want to suck it back from the middle and lower class. To think that they even had nerve to complain when some dedicated Wis. Democrates took a stand and left town. At least they did something instead of just saying "No" . Again thanks for showing a positive work ethic.

T: Maybe you missed it (as usual), but this guy was ALREADY a senator and the GOP tried to have him recalled. Therefore, the Dems didn't cost the taxpayers ANYTHING for this election. That would be the GOP. So go bitch at THEM.

This is democracy in action, but you worry about the cost?!? The people of Wisconsin are the ones who will decide who they will and won't challenge, as is their RIGHT under Wisconsin law. You seem to be yet another Bagger who only wants right for themselves, but not anyone else. I guess it's only okay to protest and cost taxpayers money when it's a Rebaglicon, huh?

And after 8 years of Bush, who, with his GOP Congress spent like a drunken sailor, you have the temerity to claim that it's the Dems who "spend your childrens' money"?!? Wow. You STILL haven't learned how to debate an issue using actual facts and logic, have you?

There's no question that this dispute here and in other states where workers are under attack has raised public awareness about the labor movement. Check this from Gallup:

More Americans Back Unions Than Governors in State Disputes
By 48% to 39%, more Americans agree with unions than with governors in the budget battles playing out in various states.

I have found that to be the case exactly, time and time again, with the Regressives. It's the main reason I cannot respect anyone who endorses and lives by that kind of political thinking--which is becoming more common and evident every day from the American right.

Good for you American Idle. We need more folk singers out there raising awareness! They can get the word out and they scare the heck out of the establishment because of how powerfully they communicate the message. I've been burning up the Woody Guthrie. "Some men will rob you with a six-gun and some will rob you with a fountain pen." Woody from "Pretty Boy Floyd" As Bob Dylan stated on his initial album "A very great man once said, 'some men rob you with a fountain pen'; it don't take too long to find out just what he was talkin' bout." --Bob Dylan referencing Woody Guthrie.

I sang this song through 4 years of college and never got sick of it. I've always been a really big Woodstock fan. That was some great unification of a split nation during a most brutal time in our history. The most amazing massing of people from all walks of life coming together in peace and music.

            http://youtu.be/qsnUu71Viyo

Yep, ya can call me a long-haired hippy (actually I do have very long hair - I'm 6' and my hair goes past my waist) - I still get a high from life and "nature" and the music that changed a nation. I vote we need a new Woodstock, but held in Madison, WI....The turn out would be phenominal and the State wouldn't have a budget problem - We'd all be there spending our money on the sounds of America coming together with one voice - This is what DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE.

Well, I guess I have to go, then! I was at a meeting where they distributed cards announcing the event, and they were apologetic about having to charge for the conference. It's all very grassroots, run by volunteers, but meeting space etc costs a lot of money for a big crowd. And they want a big crowd.

It will be after the senate recall elections, so people can concentrate on doing the next big thing.

DEBEK, I sang that song through 3 years of high school. You see, one of the music instructors back in the 30s went to Wisconsin and easily translated it to "On, Santa Monica". So, I sing along happily, much to my Michigan Man hubby's dismay when Wisconsin plays the Wolverines. True, I sing "Hail, to the Victors' more loudly, but my heart is with On, Wisconsin.

American Idle, Is it going to be a legal nightmare to back out all the changes that have been forced on Wisconsin by Walker? I have a gut feeling that Walker has made a bundle already from the Koch boys and their kind. No one should have that much power or money. Think about how many people they put into office during the midterm alone. Frightening.

gen, yes. Even if Dems take over the state senate after the recalls, the repubs will still have the assembly...and Walker (for a while). There will be a recall filed on Walker, but the question here is timing. there is a school of thought that says wait until Nov 2012 when general elections will bring out the Dem base. Of course the repubs would prefer an early recall on April 3 2012 kwhen they have their primaries, and that would turn our gop voters.

I'm wondering when the Dem primaries are.

People here are anxious to get going, so we'll see.
